Day 27

Naples, Italy

One of the pools on the Grand Princess
There is a little delay in getting docked this morning at Naples, Italy.  It causes all of the tours to get off to a later start than expected.  This is our longest tour and getting started 30 minutes late could be a problem.  Our tour is expected to last around 9 hours.

We have a really good tour guide and driver.  Their names are Julia and Leno.  Julia gives us a lot of history of the Naples area.  We take the tour called Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.  Our bus takes us along the Amalfi coast from Sorrento to Salerno passing villages along the way.  The road is very narrow and winding which is why the tour takes so much time.  We stop in Sorrento for such shopping along the flower-filled main street and have a snack at a nearby restaurant.  Our waiter (Andre) speaks a little English so we’re able to converse with him.

Our bus continues along the coast giving us terrific views as we look straight down the cliffs into the sea from our bus window.  We stop for lunch at a restaurant overlooking the sea.  We have a wonderful Italian lunch and meet a couple from Wisconsin (Larry and Kay) who join us at our table.  (Look for us on the video!)

After lunch, we continue on down the Amalfi coast before heading inland for the return trip on the autostrada.  We stop at a cameo factory and see how cameos are made right in front of us.  They are made out of seashells and are beautiful.

We finally get back to our ship around 6:30PM.  We decide to forego dinner and the entertainment as we want to just relax and unwind from our long day ashore.  It has been a beautiful day.
